Swarathma - The Inside Story
Swarathma is a Bangalore based folk fusion band. Their sound is contemporary Indian folk with a fusion of Rock, Carnatic and Jazz. Their songs speak of joys, sorrows, hope, pain, loss and optimism.
Their stage presence is as eclectic as their music and they are known for their loud, kitsch and bold look & feel. The objective of this project was to create a Coffee Table Book about the band and infuse it with the same energy. The look of the book is an interpretation of their sound and personalities.
The work involved extensive research into the band members' lives. I followed them around at gigs, visited their jampad, met their families and conducted numerous interviews and photography sessions. The idea was to immerse myself in their lives as musicians as well as at home.
The 6 month project consisted of interviewing, photographing, writing, contextualizing, organizing content, creating a unique look and finally designing the actual book and extra merchandise. The whole objective was to create something for the fans which looked and felt quintessentially "Swarathma".
